Torrevieja Salt Mine
The town of Torrevieja was originally a fishing village that grew up thanks to salt mining. Its production gradually became the most important industry in the area. A visit to the local Salinas de Torrevieja salt mine is an unforgettable experience and you will learn many interesting facts.
Guided tours of the local salt mine take place from the beginning of March to the end of September (with the possibility of extending the dates according to current demand). Tickets cost €7.95, children under 13 €6.95. The tour train departs from Paseo de la Libertad in the centre of Torrevieja to Plaza Waldo Calero, daily at 10:00, 12:00, 14:00, 16:00 and 18:00.
During the tour you can admire the salt mountains called "GARBERAS", which can be up to 20 meters high (like a seven-storey building). There are many stops during the train ride - a chance to take beautiful photos. You will also see the famous pink lake, an incredible natural gem. The tour lasts approximately one hour.
