Pink Lake

People from all over the world flock to Torrevieja. It boasts an incredible natural gem - the pink lake. In short, anyone who hasn't seen it with their own eyes will hardly believe it exists.

Las Salinas de Torrevieja is one of the most impressive natural parks in the province of Alicante and is located near another water reserve known as Laguna de la Mata. Las Salinas de Torrevieja covers an area of 1,400 hectares.

Is the lake really healthier than the sea?
The water in the lakes is not only full of salt, but also a lot of medicinal substances. The WHO has declared the place one of the healthiest in the world. The unique microclimate of the area is recommended for all those popular eczema, psoriasis, foot-and-mouth disease, rheumatism, as well as heart disease. Basically, it is the perfect natural spa.

Then why is it pink?
It's a very special single-celled algae. High concentrations of salt are usually lethal to most living organisms, but in this particular lake near Torrevieja, the water is home to a unique algae called Dunaliella salina, which contains high levels of beta-carotene (provitamin A), which has great antioxidant properties and is used in cosmetics and health care.
