Mar Menor, warmer and healthier than the real sea
The coastal saltwater lagoon of Mar Menor (Lesser Sea) is the largest in Europe, covering some 170 square kilometres. Its warm water (on average 4 degrees higher than that of the neighbouring Mediterranean) and shallow depth (maximum 7 metres), together with its beautiful beaches, make it ideal for children's first swimming lessons. And thanks to its high salinity, again the highest on the old continent, its waters are healthy for all.

Mar Menor is separated from the Mediterranean Sea by a 22-kilometre-long spit of land called La Manga. Although it is the focus of most of the tourist industry in the area, it remains a place of peace and relaxation. Mar Menor boasts a hot climate with many hours of sunshine a year. The oldest port on La Manga is Puerto Bello. Five islands (Barón, Perdiguera, Redondela, Ciervo and Sujeto) peek out of the lagoon.

At the northern end of the Charcas de las Salinas lagoon, mud deposits have been deposited for centuries, suitable for therapeutic purposes and with proven therapeutic effects on respiratory, dermatological and musculoskeletal disorders. Recent studies by the University of Murcia (1995) have shown that they contain a high percentage of calcium, magnesium, potassium and fluorine cations, as well as chloride and sulphate anions, at a much higher level than is usual in waters of similar salinity.

In addition, it has a high thermal conductivity and thanks to this also anti-inflammatory effects necessary in the case of treatment and prevention of rheumatism, arthritis, arthrosis, gout, rehabilitation after bone fractures, problems with tendonitis and musculoskeletal problems in general.
